The cause of this problem may actually reside in your Windows registry. I personally use RegCure Pro to make sure my registry is optimized and error-free.

However, if you’re technically savvy, you can try the steps below:

  1. Click Start and then select Run.
  2. Type services.msc and click OK.
  3. Locate the Windows update service, in the Services windows that is displayed.
  4. Right-click the service and then click Stop.

After this, you need to delete the contents of the DataStore folder, which is present in the Software distribution folder. To achieve this follow these steps:

  1. Click on Start and then select Run.
  2. Now type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution and click OK.

This will open the Software distribution folder.

  1. Double-click on the DataStore folder.
  2. Delete all contents of the folder and then close all Windows.

Now restart the Windows Update Service. Follow these steps:

  1. Click Start and then select Run.
  2. Type services.msc and click OK.
  3. If UAC (User Account Control) pops up press the Continue button or if you are the Administrator provide the details.

The Services window will be displayed.

  1. Locate the Windows update service.
  2. Right -click on it and then click on Start to start the service.

This should solve the windows update error 8007000. However, if the problem persists, you can run the System File Checker (SFC) utility. If your system file is corrupt or modified, SFC will replace all core system files. To run the SFC follow these steps:

  1. Click Start and then click All programs.
  2. Browse to Accessories.
  3. Right-click Command prompt and select Run as administrator.
  4. If you are prompted for the admin password, enter the password and click OK.
  5. On Command Prompt type sfc/scannow

SFC will now check and replace any modified system files and then type exit to leave the command prompt and then restart windows.
